Winter Sports Singletrack
In 2014, with the help of the Traverse City Area cross-country ski community, NMMBA built the Winter Sports Singletrack. The Winter Sports Singletrack is a trail built for fat bikes and welcoming all trail users. It can be accessed from the Supply Road Singletrack Trailhead or from Timber Ridge Resort. Above is the latest grooming map we now have about 25 miles of groomed singletrack.

Winter Trail Etiquette
ALL TRAIL USERS
● Do not ride, ski, or walk on/over any classic tracks.
● Dogs are not allowed on the 5k, 10k, &25k during the winter. You may take your pooch on the Meadows 3k loop aka “Poop Loop”
● Be an ambassador for your sport - be polite, educate other users, discourage bad behavior, follow the rules, support grooming, and we’ll all have a good time this winter.
● Do not use trails when conditions are too soft. If you see you’re leaving ruts, the snow is too soft and you should not be on the trail.
● If you must walk, walk off to the side of the trail (not in the classic tracks).
● The trail is multi-directional - be aware of traffic especially on hills and blind corners. Be prepared to stop or maneuver quickly to avoid a collision.
FATBIKERS
● Give Skiers a wide berth when passing
● Do not ride when conditions are too soft. If you are leaving a rut deeper than an inch, having a hard time riding in a straight line, or pushing your bike, the snow is too soft and you should not be riding on the trails.
● Tires must be 3.7″ or bigger.
● Tire Pressure: 4psi or less. Tire should “give” easily when you squeeze them. A pocket-sized electronic gauge is very helpful.
● Temperature: Below 30 degrees. If it is above 30 degrees the trails are not suitable for biking.
● Groups should spread across the skate lane so as not to create a rut by having many cyclists follow the exact same line.
With the help of Short’s Brewing Company, we raised $7000 to match our Rotary Grant of $7000 and purchased a brand new Ski doo Skandic SWT. This snowmobile has become our primary work horse, putting in 200+ hours of trail grooming pulling various grooming drags. Our volunteer groomers were out three to five days a week at all hours to make sure the trail remained in excellent shape. The entire venture cost NMMBA nearly $25,000. We could not have done it without the community’s support. Thank You!
Again this year, NMMBA has teamed up with TART to sell grooming badges to cover the cost of grooming. Badge sales cover the majority of expenses incurred for grooming, from gas to maintenance, repairs and shelter for our sled. With your continued support, we will continue to have the best groomed trail in Michigan.
New this year we are adding a Compaction drag, our own V-Plow groomer, and shelter for our grooming equipment. We now have an equipment fundraiser in effect to offset the cost of items not covered by grooming badge sales. Please consider donating below.
