The Cat Head trail is drifted in spots but still rideable today (Thursday 1/18). Get it while you can, the trail will be CLOSED Friday (1/19) morning due to high forecast temps THROUGH THE WEEKEND. Sad face.
With the predicted warm-up the trail is going to get very soft over the weekend. Please use your best judgement when riding. With a very thin base in some areas we will be unable to fix any damage to them.
So you might have to just stay inside and drink Short's.
Darren groomed at 7pm last night and reported a hard base with 2" of snow falling during his groom. Steve, the perfectionist he is,
Trail was re-opened this morning. We are featuring “back country” style riding today with 2-3 inches of powder on a rock hard ice base. Something different for the true enthusiast. Trail will be groomed if/when the powder buildup makes it unpleasant to ride. Right now it’s fun and beautiful!
Well 50 deg and rain is very stressful for a groomer! But the Glacial Hills fat bike trail survived. Thanks to our amazing group of volunteer groomers and would be trail users who listened to our pleas to stay off the groomed trail during the heatwave. Truly thank you!
Alright, we are fortunate to have some very dedicated groomers who went out yesterday who filled in grooves and built more berms. A special thanks to Dave Hagan, Heath Day and Chuck Hathaway.
The trail suffered some damage due some bike and mostly foot traffic when the snow was too soft. However, it is overall in good shape with about 6" of compacted base remaining. This will freeze hard tonight and become icy. Mike Walters will be out tomorrow midday with one of our not so secret weapons to grind the icy surface and combine it with the soft underlayer of snow. Expect some pretty good conditions after 4 pm.
We are asking riders to stay off Traverse City groomed Fatbike trails until Friday due to the soft conditions.
All groomed trails in the LSP at Northport are CLOSED to bikes until further notice. Depending on what happens I may try to groom Thursday night just as the temperature drops, providing a hard trail surface for the colder temps predicted this weekend. STAY TUNED and stay off the trails, please!
atrick groomed the fat bike trail yesterday afternoon. He added some extra weight to the drag to try to firm up the trail to ensure the base stays intact with some texture through the warm up over the next couple of days.
Erik Rogers ventured out on Sunday afternoon and groomed the entire trail system. We had some snow drift sections that we made two swipes over.
